To celebrate its 20th anniversary in
appropriate style, the 6000D has surrounded itself with those who
pioneered the adventure, the people who dreamt up this race at a time
when fashion favoured cross country racing over rolling terrain.
Starting round a table and then on the ground, they set out to find the
finest trails in the mountain range that makes up la Plagne. After a
number of trials and reconnaissance trips, the course that represents
the birth of a new race saw the light of day...
20 years later, there is a choice of two outstanding races:
the Classic 6000D over 55km (3000m gross ascent)
and its new friend:
the Ultra 6000D over 110km and 4600m gross ascent
This new race takes the runners
through all la Plagne’s villages (Plagne Montalbert, Champagny en
Vanoise, Montchavin-Les Coches and la Plagne’s high altitude villages),
passing through 10,000 hectares of forests, prairies, valleys and trails …
This magical route will be sign-posted and will cross the Vanoise National Park. 3 cols of more than 2000m will feature on the trails to be followed by the trail runners.
The organisers would like to make an impression at a time when the
trend is for Ultra Trail Races, the prospects for introducing our
mountain ranges to a wider public are enormous.
The 6000D classic for its part is going to treat itself to
a facelift by slightly altering its course. After sharing the first
section with the Ultra in the centre of the village of Aime (at 650m in
the valley), the runners will pick up the
path that made the 6000D legendary – the ascent to the summit of the
Bellecôte glacier, before attacking the descent into the valley, which
this year will be approached from the village of Montchavin.
