Mountainboard

Over the whole of the Grande Plagne Area

In the mountains there’sa group of miserable wretches incurably struck down with a virus against which there’s no point struggling: slidesportmania. Their rallying cry - « Snow melts, dirt doesn’t ». A profound thought which reveals their honed awareness of nature. It’s always the case that winter just isn’t enough to quench their thirst for sliding sports. They’re mutants who enjoy the changing seasons and, come the summer, swap their snowboards for mountainboards.

Quesaco? This is a hybrid machine which draws on both the skateboard and the BMX - 4 wheels (generally) mounted on 2 axles, topped off with a central tray, fitted with foot straps.

Origin? California, obviously! Born ten years ago, the mountainboard («snowboarding the summer way ») has become a completely separate sport which is winning over our resorts.

Riding the crest of the wave, Plagne Montalbert has successfully launched itself into the development of this activity. Equipped with a draglift and several obstacles, it is one of the prettiest Alpine locations, perfect for getting started and making progress.

We offer 3 options. Before starting a new stage, the previous one must be validated (6 years and over) [15 - 20€]:

  • Beginners Level 1
On a gentle slope (10 % to 15 %) with no shaded areas so the instructor has a clear view and without obstacles for the “riders”. You will move around mainly on foot and the descent will be over short distances to avoid accidents resulting from the inability to control speed. The goal for these sessions is to prove your competence at the basic skills of mountainboarding (positioning, adjustments, stopping and turning). At the end of the session, there may be some trial runs with a draglift, depending on the level of the pupils.
  • Beginners Level 2
In a larger area with the possibility of using a ski lift, we will keep to places without any shade so the instructor can see each of his pupils easily. The goal for these sessions will be to consolidate your basic skills and to learn the concept of adapting your riding to the terrain. We will concentrate on linking turns and quick stops to make progress towards free ride.
  • Advanced "free ride"
For experts who must have proved their competence in the skills outlined above. With our boards, we’ll take to the paths around Montalbert.
